DAY 1
We conquered the buses and trains required to head up into the Alps. First stop, Lauterbrunnen.
Lauterbrunnen literally means "many fountains". It's winter so we only saw one waterfall but with the insane cliffs that surround this little town it's no surprise that during the summer there are over 72 waterfalls. We were some of the only people walking around this quiet town. It was amazing. We were told we had to try a traditional Swiss dish while we were there. It's called Rosti and it is made of potatoes, it was so good! On our way home that night we also had to switch trains in Lauterbrunnen so we got to see the infamous star that lights up on the cliffs around Christmas time.
We took a cable car to our next stop, Gimmelwald. We literally went straight up the cliff, it was incredible. First thing I saw when we got off was the slide! I'm a little kid at heart, I couldn't help but go down it even though my leggings were wet for the rest of the night. The town was tiny. It had started to snow and and I was super excited. We literally did not see a single other person. Just one cat. It was my all time favorite town. So peaceful, so snowy, so cute and so magical.
Our last cable car took us up to Murren. It was starting to get dark and it was still snowing. The views were amazing. The mountains in the alps are so different than I'm used to in Utah. They seem way bigger and are definitely more jagged with more cliffs.
Our first day in Switzerland was a huge success. Stayed tuned for The Top of Europe and Southern France!
