the last monthly update. so bittersweet!
^ his first birthday party, details to come! ^
weight & length to be determined at one year appointment when we get back to Utah
diaper size: three
clothes size: 6-9 months and mostly 6-12 months
Health: Silly boy decided to give us a scare while we were at Lake Powell and he was staying with my in-laws. He was running a temperature of 104 so they took him to instacare where his heart rate was elevated (180s) so they sent him to the ER. They ended up diagnosing him with stomatitis which was a viral infection with sores in his mouth and throat. Since it was viral it was just a matter of managing symptoms. His Nana and Papa took great care of him and he was pretty much better by the time we got home. My father-in-law said he was just the best trooper and didn't even act sick. At the ER everyone kept asking him who they were they for because Mckai was just his happy, flirty, and smiley self.
Sleep: Happy 1st birthday Mckai, to me! Baby boy is finally back to sleeping through the night after his last sleep regression.
Diet: Nurses before both naps and bedtime, now that we are at a year we will start to think about weaning. He doesn't like to be fed and loves to make a mess. His all time favorite food is blueberries but loves pretty much anything.
Likes:
- balls
- toy cars
- throwing his food on the ground to feed kacee
- clapping
- swimming, he uses his arms to splash around like crazy and wants to let us go of him
- aunt shay (she gets all the kisses these days and I'm totally jealous, I miss my open mouth kisses!)
- his binky and ellie
- putting everything in his mouth
Dislikes:
- being fed
- diaper changes/getting dressed
- brushing his teeth
- being put into his carseat
Milestones: The little man is so content crawling that he doesn't have much interest in walking on his own yet. He still uses his walker and our fingers but thats about it. He has two crawling speeds... slow and REALLY really fast! He learned to clap this month and does it all day long. He also started dancing, a little head shake, and it's so cute! He loves to babble and new words include "bye-bye" and.... "mama"!!! (as of today, so not technically by his first birthday but I'm going to count it :). He only says mama if he's sad and wants comfort which I'm sure will get old fast but for now, I'm loving it! His 8th tooth finally popped through and I'm hoping (fingers crossed!) that we are done with teething for a month or two.
Things I don't want to forget:
- The time Evie called said to him, "poor little fella".
- Apparently he can climb stairs which we discovered while in Utah at my mom's house. He definitely can't go down stairs yet though!
- The way he drapes his arm over his face with his hand secured under my armpit while he is eating.
- He's still a puppy, carrying everything around in his mouth.
- He's also a monkey, always trying to climb up me and everything else.
- And he's a bear, because he bear crawls if he is outside so that he doesn't hurt his knees.
- When he high fives, it's always three in a row.
- The time he was flirting with Jenn and when Todd told him that she was taken, he gave him the biggest stink face that had us all laughing.
- He gives more courtesy laughs than belly laughs and they are so cute.
- But if he does belly laugh, it's either me or kacee making it happen.
- The way he plays with the tags on his ellie when he is tired.
- He likes to offer his food to anyone that is around while he is eating.
- His high pitched voice that he uses to talk to animals of any kind (real or stuffed) but especially kacee and ellie.
- He knows if he is doing something he shouldn't and when I notice, he tries to crawl away as fast as he can and laughs like crazy when I catch him.
